INEC Redeploys Osun REC, Agboke, To Ondo Ahead Of August 15 Governorship Poll

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has redeployed the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, to Ondo State, ahead of the August 15 Governorship poll in the state.

The redeployment is coming barely few months to the conduct of the governorship poll with Agboke having led the commission to put adequate arrangement in place towards the exercise.

No reason was stated for the redeploment but it may not be unconnected with the petitions sent by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the INEC’s Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, accusing Agboke of alleged partisanship and demanded his redeployment ahead of the poll.

However, a coalition under the aegis of Osun Democrats For Democracy (ODD) had rejected allegations and expressed confidence in the Agboke's leadership of INEC in the state.

The group added that the commission has demonstrated neutrality in its preparations for the governorship poll.

Agboke, who broke the news of his redeployment to Ondo state on WhatsApp platform he created for newsmen, however, silence on the reasons for the sudden deployment.

The former Osun and Oyo INEC Chief thanked the media for the support given to him throughout his stay in Osun state.
