Assault Allegations Against Me, Baseless, Malicious, FMC Abeokuta Head of Nursing Clarifies

The Head of Nursing Service at the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, the state capital, Nurse Abosede Fagoyinbo, has dismissed the allegation of assault on a Chief Nursing Officer of the Hospital, Nurse Oluwakemi Odusola.

The clarification followed the alleged assault which occurred on 15th January, 2026, within the premises of FMC Abeokuta after she was asked to provide water for the clinical services, the request she turned down.

Odusola said Fagoyinbo assaulted her while questioning her during a meeting at the instance of the hospital management as directed by the Medical Director (MD).

However, Nurse Fagoyinbo while speaking with newsmen who requested for her response to the allegation, described the claims as malicious and unfounded.

The Head of Nursing Service explained that Odusola was invited to defend the allegation of negligence of duty after she failed to carry out her duty by setting the catheter tray for the medical team as part of her duty which she blatantly refused on the flimsy excuse of unavailability of water which was discovered to be untrue.

She added that during the meeting while Odusola was being advised on the mistake she did which include the going extra mile to get water for the clinical service under consideration as a trained Nurse who must ensure patients are treated and as well her refusal to notified her superior officers on the development instead of blatant refusal to accede to the request of setting the tray.

According to her, the Chief Nursing Officer instead of admitting her deficiency turned the matter into a heated argument, became unruly and uncontrollable until she was taken out of office by the directive of the leaders at the meeting.

“On the said date, the nurse in question was asked by the medical team to prepare catheterization trays for the urology patients according to the medical report, the request she turned down, saying it was not part of her job

"She was asked to prepare a tray for catheter removal and she told the medical officer that she cannot because there was no water to wash the trays after used which was contrary to her Head of Unit claims

“She was also reported to have displayed arrogance and unprofessional attitudes towards the medical team on duty despite that there is water inside the treatment room and toilet but she claimed it was the duty of the clerical officers who are currently on strike

“As a trained Nurse, we have been running the clinical services with the Medical team since other health workers had embarked on strike since last November as part of our duty because Nurses are not on strike.

“To ensure fair hearing, she was summoned to a meeting at the instance of the Medical Director where she also displayed her unruly behavior when she was questioned on the matter as reported by the Supervisor

“She was later issued a query which she ignored despite that her colleagues had answered the memo sent to them within the stipulated period.

“But surprisingly, days after all these had happened she only came up with baseless and unfounded allegations that she was assaulted during the meeting held with her, the act I considered as an attempt to cover up her shortcomings, weigh in sentiments and as well to seek undeserved public sympathy

“Let me clearly stated that no form of assault was recorded against her by me or any other officers and the management acted within the ambit of the laws guiding our profession and as well all internal mechanism were explore to address the incident as against the claims by the affected Nurse

"During the said meeting where she claimed I pushed her and she fell unconsciously, there are over 23 leaders who are senior Nurses in attendance

"I want the management to conduct a thorough investigation about her allegations because her emotional blackmail is to soil my name and that of the whole hospital

"Odusola is a known patient with medical records for Epistaxis which means bleeding nose, due to her status as person who is diagnosed with blood pressure and diabetes having been admitted and treated on several occasions at the center", Fagoyinbo concluded.

Fagoyinbo, however, asked the public to disregard the deliberate attempt by Odusola to embark on cheap blackmail instead of allowing the internal mechanism put in place by the hospital management to run its course till the end.
