Teachers Must Embrace Technology Innovations, Vice Chancellors Tell Emmanuel Alayande NCE Graduands

Teachers in Nigeria have been advised to embrace technology innovations to aid their teaching activities and also the channel to boost their income.

Vice Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Professor Abel Olorunnisola, who gave the advice while delivering lecture at the 3^rd Foundation Day of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo, said teaching profession has gone beyond the four walls of the classroom.

Professor Olorunnisola explained that with the advent and proliferation of several social and technology based channels, teachers must no longer rely on salary and other emoluments to survive in the face of current economic challenges.

The guest lecturer, however, added teachers must acquaint themselves with technology based skills to remain relevant in their chosen career.

The institution's Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, also assured that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not take away the jobs from the teachers in Nigeria.

Instead, the technology will make the teaching easier for the professionals and also reach the global audience.

Professor Olaniyan said only the teachers who failed to upgrade themselves in the face of the growing technology innovations will be affected.

The Vice Chancellor added that the Nigeria and the world by extension are currently in need of teachers who are digitally inclined and able to exploit and utilize digital technology.

"AI is not taking away anyone's job just like when the computer came, people were afraid, thinking it will take away their job but instead only those who failed to adjust and use computer that the innovation take away their jobs

"I want to implore our teachers not to be afraid but to get themselves familiar with the use of these new technology called AI, to make their jobs more simpler", Professor Olaniyan concluded.

 

In a related development, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured that his administration will continue to give priority to the education development in the state.

According to him, several initiatives are being taken by the state government in a bid to reposition the educational sector in the state.

Makinde who made the promise while speaking during the 3^rd Foundation Day and Combined Convocation for the graduates of the defunct Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo and Lanlate, described education as major vehicle for development and growth of any society.

The governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, added that his administration has made several investments in the education ranging from recruitment to construction and renovations of classrooms, intervention funds, among others.
