Emmanuel Alayande Varsity Asks FG To Construct Pedestrian Bridge Along Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway

The management of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Oyo has called on the Federal Government to construct a pedestrian bridge in front of the institution located along Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway in Oyo State.

According to the university, the lives of an average of 5,000 students of the institution are being risk on daily basis while attempting to cross road.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, who made the call while speaking during the 2nd Annual Alumni Lecture held at the University main campus in Oyo, described the ugly situation as unacceptable, worrisome and disturbing.

Olaniyan explained that the information at the disposal of the management showed that there was no pedestrian bridge in the original design of the road project.

The Vice Chancellor added that several letters have been written to the appropriate quarters to quickly attend to the menace before the untoward happened.

"The welfare of our students is also important. And I think this is one area that is scary to the management and scary to everybody. We have done everything to improve on the welfare of our students, but we have a problem, and that problem goes beyond us. The problem is that Oyo ogbomosho expressway represents a security issue for us. It represents a welfare issue for us, it represents a problem to the university because there is no pedestrian reach, and every day, thousands of students cross the expressway. We believe I will continue to pray that by the grace of God Almighty, none of our students will fall victim of accidents. 

"We are using this opportunity to call on the federal government that on that road, especially at the point where our universities there should be a pedestrian region. 

"The contractor had moved back to sites within but we have not seen any sign that they want to construct a pedestrian and that pedestrian bridge is number one thing that we believe as an institution, should be constructed here", Prof. Olaniyan concluded.
