2027: SDP Gov. Candidate, Yinka Ola-Williams, Says No Ogun Resident Should Go to Bed Hungry
The Ogun State Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Dr. Yinka Ola-Williams, has said residents of the state deserve better governance and improved living conditions than what they currently experience under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.
Ola-Williams, while speaking on the state of affairs in Ogun State, acknowledged some efforts of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun but argued that more needed to be done to address the challenges confronting residents.
According to him, “The current administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun has done its best, but it is not enough for our people.”
The SDP candidate particularly questioned the quality, cost and durability of some of the road projects executed by the government, saying residents deserved greater value for public funds.
“They said they built roads. At what cost? What was the durability and lifespan of those roads? These are questions that must be answered because our people deserve value for the resources of the state,” he said.
On housing, Ola-Williams said government housing schemes should be designed to accommodate ordinary residents, rather than remaining beyond the financial reach of the majority.
He said, “The housing scheme is not affordable by the common man as it should be. Government must provide housing that ordinary workers, young people and low-income families can realistically afford.”
The SDP candidate also expressed concern over what he described as the underutilisation of Ogun State's agricultural potential, noting that the state has vast arable land capable of supporting food production and creating employment.
“We have arable lands that are good for agriculture, but nothing was done enough with them. Instead, our people are hungry,” Ola-Williams stated.
He stressed that food security should remain a priority of any responsible government, insisting that no resident should be forced to go to bed hungry in a state endowed with significant agricultural resources.
“No Ogun resident deserves to go to bed on an empty stomach,” he declared.
Ola-Williams said his administration, if elected in the February 6, 2027 governorship election, would prioritise food security, affordable housing, infrastructure and other policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
“All of these and many more we will address if voted in during the February 6, 2027 governorship poll,” he said.
