OGUN 2027: HUNYE DRAGS YAYI, APC TO COURT, SEEKS PRIMARY GOVERNORSHIP POLL NULLIFICATION

Controversies trailing the just concluded governorship primary of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has further deepened.

This is coming after one of the aspirants, Abayomi Hunye, who is challenging the emergence of the State APC Consensus Governorship Candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adekola, popularly known as Yayi, has instituted a suit before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Hunye is challenging the outcome of the exercise in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1127/2027, asking the court to nullify the primary election.

The governorship aspirant described the exercise as fraudulent and riddled with irregularities. 

He further seeks a perpetual injunction restraining the APC from forwarding the name of Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party's governorship candidate for the forthcoming poll.

According to court documents filed by the aspirant, Hunye alleged that the results declared by the party did not reflect the actual votes cast across several wards in Ogun State. 

He specifically claimed that he was awarded zero votes in his ward, despite what he described as clear video evidence showing that he and his supporters were present and secured victory in his ward during the primary election.

Hunye contended that the alleged discrepancy in his ward's result was not an isolated incident, maintaining that similar irregularities occurred in several other wards across the state. 

According to him, the conduct and outcome of the primary election violated the provisions of the APC constitution, electoral guidelines, and the principles of fairness and transparency expected in a democratic process.

The aggrieved APC aspirant, however, asked the Federal High Court to declare the primary election invalid and of no effect, alleging that the process failed to accurately reflect the wishes of party members who participated in the exercise.

Meanwhile, both the APC and Senator Adeola had officially responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

The case is expected to test the legal and procedural validity of the APC governorship primary and could have far-reaching implications for the party's preparations ahead of the governorship poll in Ogun State.
