APC Primaries: Wait For NWC Declaration On Candidate Lists, Electoral Committee Tells Ogun Aspirants

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned that no winner will be officially declared in the just concluded National Assembly primary elections in Ogun State until all result-related appeals and complaints are properly reviewed.

The ruling party had on Saturday, May 16, 2026 conducted the House of Representatives primary election and as well on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 conducted the Senate Primary election nationwide.

Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Shaibu Philips, who issued the warning while briefing newsmen at the Ogun State APC Secretariat in Abeokuta, said the party National Working Committee still have the final say on the results from the exercise.

Shuaibu explained that the collated results from various polling units across the country will be verified in line with party guidelines and electoral procedures before final pronouncement is made by the party’s apex organ.

He added that the electoral committee will not rush to declare winners until every complaint arising from the primaries had been laid before the appeal committee and disposed off at the end of the exercise.

Shuaibu said “The results that have been collected are currently being verified. We will return to our office before officially declaring a winner. Once all appeals and complaints regarding the results have been addressed, we shall then officially announce and declare the winners of the elections.

“No winner will be declared until all result-related appeals have been properly reviewed. We have already communicated this position to everyone involved.

“The National Working Committee of our party, together with the state leadership, has gone around the state and all the constituencies, overseeing the federal and local government elections. We are fully committed to the process, and directives have been issued in line with the electoral laws and party guidelines.”

He SAID the announcements of National Assembly winners in the state, were only based on results collated from various polling units and constituencies while the committee will still verify the results and reviewing complaints arising from the exercise.

Shuaibu added that a comprehensive report on the elections would be submitted to the party leadership before any official declaration is made through the appropriate communication channels.

According to him, the committee, alongside the party’s National Working Committee and state leadership, monitored the conduct of the elections across the constituencies to ensure compliance with party rules and electoral laws.

Meanwhile, The votes reeled out by the committee revealed that notable politicians, especially Former Governors Gbenga Daniel from Ogun East and Ibikunle Amosun from Ogun Central, lose out during the contest though they stayed away from the primary election.

However, the results reeled out showed that Governor Dapo Abiodun emerged as winners in Ogun East, Senator Salisu Afolabi Suaibu in Ogun Central and Jimoh Ojugbele for Ogun West.
