Over 500 Ogun Indigent Students Benefit House Of Emmanuel Foundation Scholarship Examination

 

No fewer than 500 indigent students from various secondary schools in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, have participated in a scholarship examination organized by The House of Emmanuels Foundation.

The exercise, held at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, drew participants from Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North Local Government Areas.

Founder of the foundation, Mr. Segun Emmanuel, used the occasion to call on affluent Nigerians and corporate organizations to support the less privileged, particularly in the area of education, rather than leaving the responsibility solely to government.

Emmanuel while addressing newsmen shortly after the exercise, said many brilliant pupils and students across the country are unable to continue their education due to financial constraints.

The philanthropist explained that if more well-meaning Nigerians invest in the education of underprivileged children, society would become more prosperous and socially balanced.

“A nation’s future is built on the quality of education available to its young people. We cannot continue to leave everything in the hands of government. 

"Those of us whom God has blessed financially must also rise to the responsibility of supporting the less privileged, especially children whose only obstacle to success is lack of school fees.”

According to him, the scholarship initiative was inspired by his own difficult childhood experiences and the educational challenges he faced while growing up.

“I know firsthand what it means to be unable to pay school fees. I have lived through those painful moments where dreams seemed uncertain because there was no financial support. I have been in the same shoes as many of these students,” he said.

Emmanuel added that the experience shaped his resolve to support children in need once he became financially stable.

“That experience stayed with me, and I made a promise to myself that if God ever blessed me, one of my top priorities would be to sponsor the education of children in need,” he stated.

He further said education had transformed his life and expressed confidence that the scholarship programme would help many students achieve their academic aspirations.

The examination was conducted in a conducive and orderly environment, with students commending the organizers for the smooth coordination of the exercise.

The foundation also provided all examination materials as well as refreshments for students, tutors and parents present at the venue. 

The initiative has been widely hailed as a significant contribution towards expanding access to education for indigent students in Ogun State.
