Hardships: Makinde Announces N10,000 Transportation Support Fund For Oyo Civil Servants

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has approved the sum of ₦10,000 for workers on the payroll of the state government as monthly transportation allowance.

The intervention f7und, according to the govdernor, is part of measures to cushion the impact of rising petrol prices.

Makinde, who announced the cheering news at an event in Ibadan, the state capital, said the allowance, which will take effect from April, this year.

The governor explained that the support fund will be paid to workers across cadres for three months with possible extension if the economic challenges persists.

He added that the gesture may be extended to other categories in the state because the initiative is aimed at providing relief amid prevailing economic challenges, especially the hike in fuel prices, with petrol currently being sold between ₦1,320 and ₦1,330 per litre in the state.

According to him, the intervention was part of the state government’s broader response to prevailing economic pressures, particularly the rising cost of transportation, which has continued to impact workers’ productivity and welfare.

“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden,” the governor stated.

Makinde said the measure is designed to cushion the financial burden on civil servants while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Stakeholders at the engagement commended the state government for what they described as a timely intervention, noting that the transportation support would provide immediate relief to workers grappling with inflationary pressures.
