Former NNPP Senatorial Aspirant, Hon. Damilare Abioro, Quits Party
The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in Ogun State has been dealt a major blow as Hon. Abioro Athande Damilare, a former Senatorial aspirant for Ogun West, has resigned his membership from the party.
Damilare, who contested in the last general election, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the NNPP, Agosasa Ward, Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State.
In the letter, Damilare cited "political realities" and "mentorship advice" from stakeholders as reasons for his decision.
"I have taken this decision with careful consideration and following consultations, mentorship advice, and guidance from stakeholders, supporters, associates, and my personal conviction on political realities," he stated.
The former aspirant expressed gratitude to the NNPP leadership at all levels for the opportunity to contest under the party's platform.
"I sincerely appreciate the leadership of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) at the National, State, Local Government, and Ward levels for the opportunity to show interest at the senatorial level under the party's platform," he said.
Damilare also thanked party members for their support during and after his senatorial aspiration.
"I also appreciate the support and cooperation received from the members of the party during and after my Senatorial aspiration," he added.
The resignation comes as a blow to the NNPP, which has been struggling to make an impact in Ogun State politics.
Sources close to the party say Damilare's resignation is a significant loss for the NNPP, which has been struggling to gain traction in the state.
"Abioro was a key player in our strategy to capture Ogun West, and his exit will definitely hurt our chances in the next election," a party insider said.
Damilare's exit is the latest in a string of high-profile defections from the NNPP, which has been plagued by internal strife and party infighting.
The NNPP has yet to officially respond to Damilare's resignation,
