Emmanuel Alayande University Oyo Sets To Graduate 47,623 Students

The management of the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo is set to conduct a graduation ceremony for a total of 47,623 graduates from the defunct Emmanuel Alayande College of Education Oyo.

Recall the defunct Collect transited from NCE awarding institution to Degree awarding institution in December 16, 2022 by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, who made this known at a news conference to herald the institution's 3rd Foundation Day, said the graduands graduated between 2005 and 2025.

Olaniyan explained that the institution insisted on conducting the graduation ceremony for the former students who didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the ceremony due to some circumstances.

"we think that this third anniversary has to be celebrated. But as a university, we need to remember where we are coming from. We are also coming from a situation where we were a College of Education, and as a college of education, the institution is indebted. 

"We are indebted to thousands of students who completed their program but did not have the benefits of enjoying the graduation ceremony. The last graduation ceremony on this campus was the one that was held in 2027 or 2008 and it was done for those who graduated in 2005. 

"Before now we have students who graduated, some of them graduated in 2005 till 2025 who had never benefited from graduation ceremony. So it's a debt if we are now moving from College of Education to university, and we don't do that, it means we have deprived such graduates the opportunity of celebrating their completion of the NC program, and that's why the management are proposed to council that we should also use this as a graduation ceremony for the SCE graduates who graduated between the year 2005 2005 and 2025. 

"That's 21 years. So it's a 21 years graduation program for them. Some people might say, Why do you need to do that? Some people graduated in 2025. Are already ministers. They are already well to do in their different walks of life. Someone was even joking with me that some of them are now professors, but what is important is that there is something that is already missing in their life, that NC graduation. 

"So we want to be sure that it is done and that debt is already redeemed as part of our program. We also conduct a convocation program for 21 years of graduates, 2005 to 2025 there are the number of students that we are planning to have graduation for are 47,623 graduates. 

"47,623 graduates between 2005/2006 session, and 2004/2025, session. So we expect them to be there, and we believe that with that, would have redeemed the debt of competition, let me recall that it will also mark the perfect transition from college of education to a university", the Vice Chancellor concluded.

Speaking on the growth of the institution, he said "for 2023/2024 session, we were able to start our admission process. And that session alone, we were able to admit 2776 students for 2024/2025 session, we also admitted students totalling 3234 while for the current session we have given admission to 3860 what that means is that for these three sessions, and in the last two years, our university has been able to admit 9620 students, we qualify to be one of the fastest growing institutions in the country. Over three years, we have that number of students. 

"There are even institutions that have spent 10 years that don't have those numbers. And that tells you the efforts that have been taken put into this activity by the management of our but what is important is what the students get out of the university, and that's why we have so many academic programs", he added.

Professor Olaniyan added that 47 academic staff were promoted to the Professorial cadre alongside 86 others promoted to their next level while 116 non academic staff also benefitted from the last promotion exercise.
