2027: INEC Receives Additional 12 Applications For Registration As Political Parties
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it has received additional 12 fresh applications from associations for registration as political parties ahead of 2027 general polls.
The electoral umpire has On Monday last week announced that it had received applications from 110 associations seeking registration as political parties.
INEC Spokesman, Sam Olumekun, who gave the update in a statement, said the new figure as raised the numbers of the new applications to 122 as of Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
Olumekun explained that the commission is currently processing the applications transparently and in fairness to all applicants.
He added that the list of the new applications by names of associations, their acronyms, addresses, and interim Chairmen and Secretaries has been uploaded to the website and other platforms for public information.
According to him, the commission will respond to the applicants in line with the Electoral Act and Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022.
He, however, said one of the associations has already changed its interim Secretary as a result of defection to another association.
Olumekun appealed to the associations to maintain consistency of their proposed leadership and addresses so that they do not by their own actions cause a delay to the timely consideration of their applications.
