2027: Don't Set Nigeria On Fire - Abioro Cautions Politicians, Religious Leaders
A Chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Hon. Damilare Abioro, has cautioned the political elites against heating up the polity ahead of the 2027 general polls.
The advice is coming on the heels of the recent formation of opposition coalition to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the development which has resulted in various verbal attacks among relevant Stakeholders.
Abioro, who issued the warning while addressing newsmen, said the next election should not be a do-or-die affair.
The Agosasa born politician explained that while there is freedom of association and there is free entry and exit in any political party, there is need for the political elites in the country to refrain from making inflammatory statements as the electioneering gathers momentum.
According to him, the current situation in the country requires the leaders at all levels to preach peace and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians regardless of the political, religion or ethnic affiliations.
"2027 journey of Nigeria politics and the game of politics in Nigeria has started ahead of 2027 but the good players will never or want to be desperate for power but wish to continue to have good leadership mindset to lead and to make Nigeria great like more than ever before
"I wish to appeal to political power seekers and position seekers to consider peace for Nigeria over their ambitions and to pray on how to be a good leader rather than fighting at the detriment of the lives of innocent Nigerians
"Let me also plead with the supporters to consider preaching peace in any form of campaigns ahead of 2027, likewise our religious leaders should please shun evil prophecies capable of heightened the tension instead of words of comforts to Nigerians who are going through hardships and insecurity and as well pray for peace restoration in our beloved country.
Abioro, however, asked Nigerians to learn from the past political experiences especially before, during and after the polls in order to ensure that no Nigerian soul is lost in the name of politicking.
