Mentally unstable man kills brother’s wife, fatally injures child in Jigawa

A 25-year-old, Buhari Sule, has allegedly hacked his brother's wife, identified as 20-year-old, Ummi Saleh, to death in Jigawa State.

The suspect, a male resident of Gunka village in Jahun Local Government Area of the State, also attacked a six-year-old child, Hauwa Alkassim, in the community.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, Lawan Shiisu Adam, who confirmed the tragic incident to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital, said the suspect is believed to be mentally unstable.

Adam explained that the suspect brutally assaulted his younger brother’s wife and seriously injuring a neighbor’s daughter using a pestle.

He added that the command upon receiving a distress call from the public immediately deployed a patrol team to the scene.

According to him, the victims were immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Jahun for medical treatment .

Adam said the wife later succumbed to death due to her injuries while receiving medical treatment while the child victim is still undergoing medical treatment.

He said the deceased’s body has been released to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Adams further stated that the suspect is currently in police custody while preliminary investigations suggest he may be suffering from mental health issues.

According to him, authorities have ordered a comprehensive medical evaluation to ascertain his mental condition.
