Emergency rule: Fubara meets Tinubu in UK

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has met with President Bola Tinubu in London during the latter’s 18-day retreat in Europe.

It is first face‑to‑face since Tinubu invoked Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution on 18 March, declaring a state of emergency in Rivers and suspending Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The meeting which was at the request of Fubara, is an indication that the political turmoils in Rivers State may soon be over.

The development may also cut short the emergency rule in the state, as many political pundits had predicted the elongation of the Sole Administrator reign.

The details of the meeting is still sketchy but it is expected that Fubara would be ready to make some concessions in order to end the crisis.

Tinubu is also expected to again meet with both Fubara and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, over the crisis.
