Akande charges Christians to cater for poor masses during Lent

 

Vice Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government, Hon Bisi Akande, has called on Christian faithfuls to extend love and preach peace as they observe the Lent fasting.

According to him, the rich and the philanthropists must cater for the poor masses during the spiritual exercise and beyond.

Akande in a statement to felicitate with Christians on Lent Fasting, said the followers of Christ must use the period to purge themselves of sins and move closer to God.

The Council Vice Chairman explained that Lent like other spiritual activities provided the Christians the opportunity to rejuvenate, introspect, and renew themselves in Jesus Christ.

He added that Lent teaches the Christians how to remain steadfast in their faith while waiting for the second coming of their Saviour.

According to him, Christians must imbibe the spirit of compassion, generosity and kindness to the people around them especially the poor, vulnerable and the neglected in adherence to the dictate of the Christian faith.

“In the spirit of our spiritual rebirth through Lent fasting, we must extend our hands of fellowship in giving to our people, especially the poor masses among us as we observe the fast.

"Let us reach out to them with kindness, compassion and generosity in order to give them a sense of belonging, in a bid to make our society a more inclusive and equitable habitat for all”, he admonished.

"I pray to God to grant us the strength and wisdom to observe the fast with soberity, devotion and sincerity, that will rededicate us with our Maker as we await His return", the Political Head of Ibarapa North West Development Council added.

Akande, however, appealed to Christians, especially the religious leaders to offer prayers for his principal, Hon. Lateef Akorede, for divine wisdom, strength and guidance, to able to bring more dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroot level.
