Ogun Teachers Reject PDP Allegation, Insist Backing for Yayi Voluntary

A group of teachers in Ogun State operating under the banner of Yayi Teachers has dismissed allegations by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that teachers are being pressured to support Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

In a statement jointly signed by the group's State General Coordinator, Comrade Sunday Odunaro, and State Secretary General, Mr. Taiwo Olusola Increase, the association maintained that its endorsement of the senator was voluntary and based solely on his contributions to the education sector.

The group said it has more than 15,000 members spread across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State, stressing that its members were merely exercising their constitutional right to freely associate and support a candidate of their choice.

According to the statement, the association was established five years ago and adopted Senator Adeola from inception because of what it described as his exceptional contributions to education through constituency projects and legislative interventions.

It listed the construction of 87 classroom blocks, 56 staff rooms and four ultra-modern libraries across Ogun State among the projects credited to the senator, alongside the distribution of furniture and textbooks to public schools.

The teachers also claimed Adeola facilitated the construction of 13 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres and eight skills acquisition centres, while thousands of teachers and students reportedly benefited from ICT training programmes and received laptops.

The statement further said the senator facilitated 2,636 scholarships valued at N200,000 each and 9,894 bursaries worth N100,000 each for Ogun students in tertiary institutions across the country.

It also credited him with donating minibuses to higher institutions and sponsoring legislation that upgraded the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.

The association further claimed that Adeola paid the 2026 WASSCE fees of 2,137 candidates and sponsored JAMB registration for more than 7,000 Ogun students over the years.

The group insisted that its endorsement was based on these achievements and not on any form of coercion, describing the PDP's allegation as false.l.
