The Ogun State 2027 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, on Friday intensified his consultations with key political leaders in the state.

The APC flagbearer paid separate visits to former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and former President Olusegun Obasanjo both in their residences in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Adeola had earlier met with Amosun in his Ibara GRA residence before meeting Obasanjo at his Oopl residence.

Yayi's meeting with Amosun, widely regarded as a major political figure in Ogun APC, was seen as a significant step towards strengthening unity within the party ahead of the polls .

Adeola, while addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting with Amosun, described Amosun as his political leader.

The APC Candidate explained that he visited the former governor seek his understanding and support for the task ahead.

"I came to seek my leader's understanding and support, which he has graciously given.

"I will return for another scheduled visit when he will be ready to address the press. Today's meeting has been excellent. Everyone is happy, the turnout was impressive and we are speaking with one voice.

"It is victory for our party in 2027," Adeola said.

Responding, former Governor Amosun called on members of the APC to remain united, stressing that the party's success would depend on cooperation rather than division.

Amosun emphasised the need for unity within the ruling party, warning against actions capable of creating divisions among members.

He maintained that the people of Ogun State were more interested in good governance than internal political disputes and urged party leaders and supporters to work together in the collective interest of the APC.

"What the people want is good governance. We are one family, and there is no need to form separate groups," Amosun said.

He thanked party leaders and supporters who accompanied Adeola on the visit, assuring them that the party would continue to work together.

"It is a great joy that you have all come. We appreciate your presence and ask for your continued support and cooperation.

"This visit is not about seeking support because the support is already there. We are ready to move forward.

"When the time comes, we will put everything together, review it carefully and proceed accordingly," he added.

Later, Adeola during his visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL),  said he came to seek the elder statesman's blessings, guidance and support.

Yayi explained that the visit as fruitful, saying Obasanjo shared his vision for the development of Ogun State and offered valuable advice on governance.

"I came to pay homage to our father, a former President and respected national leader. We received a warm reception and sought his blessings, guidance and support, all of which he graciously gave us.

"He spoke passionately about the future of Ogun State, his expectations and what he believes we must do to keep the state on the right track.

"We have listened carefully, taken his advice to heart and will incorporate it into our plans and programmes as we move toward 2027. I sincerely thank him for the warm reception he extended to me and my deputy," Adeola said.

In his remarks, The former President said Ogun State possesses enormous comparative advantages in agriculture due to its vast arable land and strategic proximity to Lagos, stressing that the state could become the food hub of Nigeria’s commercial capital while expanding exports of processed agricultural products.

He also identified tourism as another critical sector capable of boosting the state’s economy through the development of its historical sites, arts and cultural heritage.

Obasanjo further advocated inclusive governance, urging political leaders to move beyond adversarial politics after elections and embrace consensus-driven leadership for the overall development of the state.

He noted that, irrespective of political affiliation, whoever emerges as governor would have his support in the interest of Ogun State’s progress and prosperity.

Obasanjo urged Adeola to remain focused on his ambition while committing his aspirations to God's purpose.

"My prayer is that your desires and ambitions will align with God's purpose for your life," the former President said.

Obasanjo recalled how his own ambition to become a geologist gave way to a military career, saying God's plan ultimately shaped his future.

"I wanted to study geology and become a great geologist, but that was not God's plan for me. God's purpose was for me to make progress through the military, and He helped me every step of the way.

"I pray that God's purpose for your life will also be fulfilled.

"Be focused on what you want to achieve. Pursue your goal with determination and leave the rest to God and to our people," he said.
