A resident, Mrs Salawu Adenike, blamed the act on the inconsistency by the Private Sector Participants (PSP) handling the waste collection for residential and commercial areas.

"the government needs to work on the PSP handling our waste collection, as they are majorly responsible for what we are seeing in our environment

"on many occassions, they will not come to pick our wastes, while several residents are also guilty of not dumping their refuse properly", she said.

A male trader, Mr Akin Folorunso, asked the state government to impose stiffer sanctions for those involving in indiscriminate dumping of refuse across the state.

"government needs to implement the existing laws to sanction anyone found culpable of this act

"In this kuto market, the offensive odour as a result of the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially during the market day, is enough to spread disease like cholera among others

"government must act fast to curb the trend which we are seeing in Abeokuta city", he concluded.

Meanwhile, the state’s ministry of Environment had recently secured the conviction of several residents for indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
