Ogun APC Governorship Aspirant Faults N2 billion Fraud Allegations Against Him
The Ogun State Governorship Aspirant under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Abayomi Hunye, has faulted the allegations of Corruption matter levelled against him.
This is coming after a group identified as Assembly of Patriots International had alleged that the immediate Past chairman of Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA) embezzled over N2 billion while in office.
According to the group, the alleged public fund is one of several corruption and abuse of office levelled against him.
But, Hunye, while reacting to the allegation, described it as baseless, false and misleading.
The former OGWAMA boss explained that the allegations are not new, as he had faced similar investigations while in office.
According to him, the current trial is politically motivated as a result of his political ambition to become the next governor of Ogun State.
He added that the current ongoing accusations and persecution will suffer same failure like previous attempts.
"When they were first raised, I was asked to proceed on leave to allow for investigations. However, no credible findings were ever established against me.
"The Ogun State House of Assembly also invited parties involved in the matter. I honoured the invitation and appeared twice, while those making the allegations failed to appear and substantiate their claims before I eventually resigned as a Special Adviser to the governor due to my governorship ambition.
"My record in office remains clear and verifiable. Under my leadership, OGWAMA’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) grew from approximately ₦600 million to ₦2.8 billion through revenue diversion blockage, reforms, innovation, and improved efficiency.
"The fact that these allegations are being publicly circulated through press before any investigation has even commenced only proof that this is a political gimmick aimed at damaging my reputation and frustrating my aspiration to serve as the next Governor of Ogun State.
Hunye, however, insisted that he is not worried about any lawful investigation into the allegations.
"Nevertheless, I welcome any lawful investigation and remain confident that the truth will prevail. I will not be distracted by these antics. Instead, I remain focused on my vision for Ogun State and committed to serving the people with integrity and purpose", he concluded.
