Ewekoro DPO, CSP Ojekunle, Urges Residents to Stay Vigilant Amid Security Concerns

The Ewekoro Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Chief Superintendent Of Police (CSP), Dapo Ojekunle, has called on residents of Ewekoro Local Government Area to remain alert and cooperate with security agencies as the country grapples with current security challenges.

The advisory comes as security agencies nationwide have heightened alerts following recent incidents of kidnapping and banditry in the neighboring states. 

The development has made the Ogun State Police Command to repeatedly stressed the need for residents to be security conscious.

CSP Ojekunle, in an advisory notice, said the Nigeria Police Force cannot secure lives and property alone without active community participation.

“We are in a period where security is everybody’s business,” Ojekunle said.

“Criminals are becoming more creative. If you see something unusual strange movements, unknown persons lodging in your area, or suspicious activities around the cement factories and highways – report to us immediately.”

He urged residents to avoid night travel where possible and to verify visitors before offering accommodation.

According to him, other key security tips for residents include;

*Know your neighbors*: Be familiar with people living around you. 

*Report any new/strange tenants to the landlord and police for proper profiling.

*Avoid night trips*: Limit movement on the expressway and rural roads after 7pm. Kidnappers and hijackers prefer darkness.

*Secure your home*: Install good locks, motion lights, and don’t display valuables openly. Lock doors/windows even when at home.

*Verify visitors*: Don’t give accommodation to strangers without proper ID and a local guarantor. Inform your Baale/CDC chairman.

*Travel in groups*: Farmers going to plantations and traders should move in groups and inform someone of their route/return time.” the DPO stressed.

Ojekunle, however, cautioned the residents against jungle justice on any 

“We don’t want residents to take the law into their hands. Information is the best weapon we have right now. Timely calls to the police can prevent an incident,” he said.
