Iyabo Obasanjo Discontinues Governorship Aspiration Over Yayi's Emergence

 

The daughter of former president Olusegun Obasanjo and A Female aspirants undr the platform oppf the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, has discontinued her aspiration to contest the Ogun state governorship poll in 2027.

This is coming after the governorship candidate had embarked on wide consultation to relevant stakeholders within and outside the state.

The development had dashed her ambition to become the first female state governor both in Ogun and Nigeria.

Obasanjo, who announced the development in a statement, attributed her decision to the endorsement of Senator Solomon Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the election.

“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process,” Obasanjo said.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”

She expressed gratitude to her supporters for the “unwavering trust” they reposed throughout the period she declared her intention for run for of the south-west state.

It will be recalled that Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the name of Adeola as the APC preferred candidate to succeed him in 2027 during the strategic caucus meeting of the party in Abeokuta, the state capital.
