Legislative Council Suspends Ado-Odo/Ota Chairman Over Failure To Present Financial Report

The Legislative Council of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government has suspended the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal Adewale, for a period of three months.

The decision followed the Chairman’s persistent failure to present the statement of income and expenditure of the Local Government, despite several official demands and reminders from the Legislative Council in line with the provisions of the Local Government Administration Law of Ogun State.

During the plenary, a motion for suspension was moved by Hon. Asalu Musediq Aina and seconded by Hon. Hon. Idowu olushola Mathew, citing gross disregard for legislative oversight and lack of transparency in the management of council funds. 

The motion was thereafter put to vote and adopted by an overwhelming majority of Honourable Councillors, meeting all constitutional requirements for such resolution.

Leader of the House, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, who made this known to the newsmen at the end of the session, said the decision was not politically motivated but a necessary step to uphold accountability and good governance at the grassroots level. 

Akanji explained that the Legislative Council remains committed to protecting the interest of the people of Ado-Odo/Ota and ensuring that public funds are managed responsibly.

He added that the Vice Chairman shall assume administrative responsibilities in acting capacity pending the outcome of further investigations and the expiration of the suspension period.

According to him, the Legislative Council assures all residents of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government of its unwavering dedication to transparency, due process, and the rule of law.
