'We Will Not Abandon The Struggle' Ogun TUC Chairman, Lasisi, Confirms Receipt Of Over 30,000 SMS
The aggrieved workers had stayed away from their duty posts to compel the state government to halt its planned implementation of the controversial Contributory Pension Scheme, review the consequential adjustment of basic salary allegedly the lowest in the South West, among others demands.
The warning followed the insinuations in some quarters that some labour leaders had compromised while some have allegedly yielded to the intimidation by the state government to end the strike which had crippled activities in the public institutions especially schools, hospitals, courts and the local and state Secretariat.
Some of the workers while reacting on the viral reports threatened a showdown with their leaders if the industrial action is aborted without achieving the desired results.
They also vowed to take their destinies into their hands by embarking on protest in their respective local government areas.
However, some workers while empathize with the union leaders, called for maximum support for them instead of casting aspersions on their tireless efforts.
Confirming the ugly development, The State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Akeem Lasisi, said workers have been on the neck of the union leaders over the rumour.
Lasisi explained that no fewer than 30,000 text messages and hundreds of calls have been put across to the labour leadership over the ongoing strike.
"The leadership has been inundated with several messages and online feedback data specifying Yes/No to the implementation of CPS.
"There are also reports of planned protests across the 20 local governments against the policy starting from Mon., 21st July, 2025.
"We understand your frustration stems from the news caption *'Labour set to suspend strike as Governor Abiodun reaches agreement on pension scheme and workers welfare'*
"Permit me to urge you to shelve any negative ideas or embark on any action that may jeopardize our genuine demand from the government. We are in the office because of you and we will not do anything to jeopardize your interest either now or in the future.
"The leadership has received over 30,000 messages (and still counting up to the time of writing this piece) warning us against accepting the implementation of the scheme.
"Uneasy lies the head, nobody is going against your interest, we are only trying to manage the situation on the ground as we understand your concern to meet your mandate.
Lasisi, however, commended the striking workers for their patience while assuring them that the dispute will be pursued to a logical conclusion.
"Distinguished Ogun state workers, we want to express our gratitude and support you gave to the leadership in ensuring financial security after retirement in our dear state", he said.
