Black Sunday: 21 Passengers Burnt To Death In Kano Autocrash

A total of 21 passengers have burnt to death in a fatal autocrash along the Kano–Zaria highway in Kano State.

Three others passengers also sustained varying degrees of injuries during the incident which occurred at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsalle, involving a commercial Bus marked KMC 171 YM and a trailer marked GWL 422 ZE.

Kano State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mohammed Bature, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, described it as one of the most devastating crashes in recent times.

Bature explained that the preliminary investigations revealed that the Bus driver violated traffic rules and collided head-on with the trailer, triggering a fire that engulfed both vehicles.

“The crash was caused by route violation by the driver of the Toyota Hummer Bus, which led to a head-on collision with the trailer. The impact resulted in a fire outbreak,” he said.

The Sector Commander said the burnt bodies of the victims have been deposited in the morgue of the Nassarawa Hospital in Kano while the injured victims were rushed to Garun Malam General Hospital for medical treatment.
