I'm Satisfied with my Achievements in Eight Years at FMC Abeokuta - Outgoing MD, Prof Musa Olomu

The Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun state, Prof. Adewale Musa Olomu has expressed satisfaction over the achievement recorded by his administration during his eight years in office.

According to the outgoing Medical Director who will bow out on May 31st, 2025, the feats recorded under his name had shown that he has taken the hospital to the promise land under his leadership.

Prof. Musa-Olomu, who boasted about the achievement while giving account of his stewardship at a news conference at Telemedicine Conference Hall, described the eight years reign at the hospital as memorable.

The outgoing Medical Director explained that though the eight years tenure was dramatic but he was able to weather the storms and completed his tenure successfully.

He listed the establishment of a Medical University in Abeokuta, as one of the legacies of his administration despite the challenges.

According to him, the medical academic institution will further boost the healthcare service in Ogun State and neighbouring States.

“I have taken FMC to promise land, my administration has paved way for the establishment of Medical University in Abeokuta, this is of my achievements within my 8 years in office, I want to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for investing in health sector”

"I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for transforming the health sector with the increase in the medical school admissions and building healthcare infrastructure nationwide.

“it is surprising that despite the increase in admission into medical schools, building pharmacies, laboratory technology facilities, those things are not reducing the number of doctors relocating to the US, UK, and Europe.

"To address the ugly trend, give us the salaries that we deserve as the colonial masters were doing in those days when they treated us as number two immediately after the Director General. Then doctors will stay. You can imagine, in this hospital, my doctors separated cancer from the nerves and bones, and the patient lived again.

“What are they doing in the US? What are they doing in the UK? It was here at FMC that cancer was removed. What is the salary of those doctors? Around 700,000 to 800,000. What are they going to do with that? And you say they shouldn’t go to where they will be paid 10 million per month so that they will be able to take care of their wives and children?

“Fine, they have invested a lot in the health sector. Yes, they are training pharmacists and doctors, but they should make sure that their incentives and salaries are paid so that we can stay back and do the necessary things,” he concluded
