Igangan Community Development Association commends Makinde, Oyo Assembly over Asigangan elevation in New Obas Council Law
AsiganganIndigene and residents of Igangan axis of Ibarapaland in Oyo State have applauded Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State House of Assembly for the amendment of the Oyo Council of Obas and Chiefs Law.
The amendment, according to the sons and daughters of Igangan under the auspices of Igangan Community Development Association (ICDA), confer on Asigangan of Iganganland the Vice Chairmanship of the Council and the permanent chairmanship status of the traditional council in the local government area.
National President of the Association, Mr Joseph Ojewola, in a statement made available to newsmen by the Secretary, Mr Isau Ayandele, said the bill has addressed the agelong injustices by putting Asigangan in the right place of history.
Ojewola explained that the bill will enhance the effectiveness of the Council of Obas and Chiefs, promoting peace and stability in the council.
He added that the arrangement will usher in peace, tranquility, and development in the town.
According to him, the community appealed to the State government and other traditional rulers in the council area to be wary of the efforts of some individuals and groups to truncate the enduring peaceful co-existence in the local government area.
"We the indigene and residents of Iganganland expressed our sincere appreciation to the Oyo State Assembly for the painstaking job in amending the Council of Obas and Chiefs Law (Cap 37) of Oyo State 2000, as outlined in the Further Amendments Bill 2025 by Oyo State House of Assembly.
"The amendment elevates our Kabiyesi, the Asigangan of Iganganland, to the position of Vice Chairman of the State Traditional Council and the permanent chairmanship status confer on him
"We view the good development as part of the government’s efforts to reforms traditional institutions and the correctness of the agelong historical injustices done to exclude important traditional rulers
"The amendment will further make the Council effective and as well promote peace and stability in Ibarapa North, Ibarapaland and the entire Oyo State .
Ojewola said the community hold the other traditional rulers in the local government in high esteem, assuring that Asigangan will use the position to protect the interest of every community and village under his leadership.
He extended the appreciation to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Debo Ogundoyin and the members of the State Assembly, as well as the State's Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, among other stakeholders.
