Anxiety grips Ogun, Lagos, Oyo residents over alleged deadly rice in circulation
Anxiety has gripped the residents of Ogun, Lagos and Oyo States over the purported deadly rice in circulation.
The rumour has gone viral through the voice notes on various Whatsapp groups while members of the family have also forwarded it to their loved ones.
Viral voice notes had claimed that the rice which was allegedly stolen from a trader in the neighbouring country.
According to it, the deadly rice in circulation was allegedly responsible for the death several people who had eaten it, especially in Badagry.
Some of the voices also alleged that the female owner had contracted an Ogun worshipper who placed a curse on the rice to kill anyone who eat it.
The ugly development has created a palpable fears in the minds of residents, especially those living in Badagry, Seme, Abeokuta, Yewa areas, as well as those in many parts of Oyo State.
Several residents are now opting for for staple foods as alternative to rice.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has debunked the rumour, describing it as false and misleading.
