Rivers: Wike says Fubara is gone, hints State of Emergency extension

 

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has hinted of extension of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

This is coming after the former governor of Rivers State expressed his dissatisfaction with the presidential declaration instead of the outright removal of his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, over the political crisis rocking the state.

President Bola Tinubu had declared the State of Emergency following disturbing security report from the state due to the crisis, citing persistent political instability and escalating security concerns, including recent pipeline explosion.

But, Wike while speaking during a media parley in Abuja, said the emergency rule was not part of his desired outcome in the ongoing political crisis.

The Minister hinted of the possibility of extending the tenure of the State of Emergency beyond the current six months.

He explained that Fubara is gone since the matter is already in court.

“I am not happy with the state of emergency,” the former Rivers governor said.

 “As a politician, I am not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers state. I wanted the outright removal of the governor. But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy in the state.

“The matter is in court but people must say the truth. The governor was gone. It is not on my place to make it good for the governor. As a politician, my business is not to make him comfortable and that is why there is power plane.”
