Ogun: Another accident claims 18 lives along Ikorodu-Sagamu road

A fresh ghastly autocrash has claimed the lives of another 18 persons in Ogun State.

The tragic incident which occurred along Ikorodu-Sagamu road is coming few hours after a fatal autocrash claimed seven lives along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident involved five vehicles and two motorcycles which include a Toyota Hiace bus marked AGL 752 YC, a Daf truck marked T14007LA, a Honda car marked HT680, another unregistered Daf truck, a pickup  van marked STF10204, a motorbike marked AGG 448 Q and a Bajaj bike marked PKA214WS.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, said the victims died on the spot.

Okpe explained that a FRSC officer from the Mosimi Unit Command was among the dead victims after he was killed during the rescue operation when the brake of another vehicle failed and it ran into them.

“A total of 22 people were involved in the multiple crash (14 male, 6 female, and 1 child). Four people were injured, and 18 persons were killed, including one of the rescue officers who happened to be an FRSC personnel.

“This happened when vehicles one and two crashed, and the FRSC rescue team was carrying out the rescue operation when another vehicle ran into them due to brake failure, killing the FRSC staff.”

Okpe noted that the injured victims were taken to Dasochris Hospital Gbaga, while the deceased were deposited at OOUTH.

Meanwhile, Sector Commander Fasakin Akinwumi advised motorists to drive within the stipulated speed limit and observe road signs.
