Gunmen kill one, abduct final year varsity student in Kebbi

 

Unknown gunmen have abducted a 400-level student of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State Capital.

The victim, identified as Augustine Madubiya, a final-year student of Economics department was abducyed during the early hours of Tuesday in a brazen attack in his apartment located at Istijaba Villa, an off-campus hostel in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The 23 years old student was abducted when the kidnappers stormed his hostel premises around 3am and whisked away to unknown destination.

Spokesman of the State police command, Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said another victim was shot dead by the gunmen during the attack.

“Tragically, a good Samaritan, Malam Siddi Hussaini, who was nearby attending to his cattle and attempted to intervene, was fatally shot during the incident.

“He was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor”, Abubakar said.

According to him, the command has swiftly mobilized a team of security operatives to the scene following the report.

“The command is following credible leads, and a combined team of security personnel is actively combing the surrounding forest areas to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of those behind this despicable act”, the statement added.

He, however, assured the public of their commitment to restoring safety, rescue the victim from the custody of and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
