FG kicks off TASUED transition process

Federal Government has kick-started the process of taking over the ownership of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode.

The process is part of the meeting between the Transition Committee and Ogun State Government to facilitate the transfer of the institution from being State-owned to a Federal university.

The Team lead, Mrs. Rakiya Ilyasu, while speaking during the meeting, commended the State Governments for the warming reception of the team in the state, affirming that the committee has the mandate of ensuring a smooth transitioning of the University

Ilyasu, who the Director, University Education Departments of the Federal Ministry of Education explained that the preliminary visit was to intimate the State Government on requisite documents including the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to be transferred to the Federal Government.

The Director added that the process is to initiate, process and complete the transfer of ownership from the State to the Federal Government.

According to her, the committee assured the State Government of maintaining the standard of TASUED.

 “These documents are important to ensure a thorough and painstaking process that will not be faulted in the near future and to forestall unnecessary litigations against the Federal Government by host communities and other stakeholders",Iliyasu said

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, who received the team on behalf of the State government, said his administration was committed towards ensuring due diligence and engendering a smooth transition of the University.

Abiodun added that the decision was in order to enhance the existing standard of the institution for the benefits of the learners and staff.

 “We are the education capital of the nation, owning the highest number of tertiary institutions in the nation and I dare say that TASUED is one of our priced assets in the education sector hence the need to attract more investment and attention to the institution", He said

‘’I assure you that our very competent Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology as well as his team and our legal departments will provide you necessary support for hitch-free process.’’

The Federal Government team comprised delegates from TETFUND, Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) as well as the Federal Ministry of Education.

Also in attendance at the meeting were Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya; Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu; Vice Chancellor of TASUED, Prof. Wole Banjo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Tosin Oloko among others.
