Federal Medicine and Medical Varsity Abeokuta commences Academic session in September - VC
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences Abeokuta, Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade, has announced that the university will start its academic session by September 2025.
Arogundade who made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta, Professor Adewale Musa Olomu and the hospital management committee.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the University will take off with core medical programmes such as Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences.
He added that the university will collaborate with the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta to utilize the centre as a training ground for students.
Also speaking, the Board Council Chairman, Dr Usman Muhammed Shanawa, appreciated Professor Musa Olomu for his determination, doggedness and effort in making sure the dream of bringing the school to existence come to pass.
According to him, Olomu's hard work really speaks for itself.
While responding, Professor Musa Olomu, pledged his continued support for the university's growth and development.
The Medical Director prayed the university become a leading institution in medical education and research.
He, however, appealed to the board to request the federal government to upgrade the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta to a teaching hospital.
The visit was led Dr. Usman Muhammed Shanawa the Governing Council Chairman,
Professor Fatiu Abiola Arogundade the Vice Chancellor and other principal officers, including Dr. Obayomi Olukayode Gregory , Registrar, Mrs. Adedokun Omolola Olufunso Bursar, and Dr. Idiat Odunola Agboola the University Librarian and other stakeholders.
