Angry Mob beats man to death, injured another over dog theft in Bauchi

An angry mob has beat a man, identified as Peter, to death over alleged stealing of a dog in Bauchi State.

Another person, identified as a 38-year-old Dokagk Danladi, was also critically injured over the allegation during the incident which occurred at the Lushi area of Bauchi metropolis.

A group of youths who accused the victims of dog theft and beat them until one died while the second victim managed to survive due to intervention of the security operatives.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, who the incident to newsmen, described the act as barbaric and detrimental to the nation’s legal framework.

Wakil explained that the second victim sustained severe machete wounds to the head during the attack.

He added that the second victims were rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH for medical treatment, while Peter was found dead at the scene and declared deceased by medical personnel.

According to him, a team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, visited the scene to collect evidence and better understand the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, strongly condemned the act, warning that the Command under his leadership would not tolerate acts of jungle justice or allow individuals to take the law into their own hands.

“No one has the right to brutalize a suspect. It is unlawful and unacceptable for anyone to assume the role of law enforcement. Anyone apprehended in connection with a crime must be handed over to the police or appropriate authorities for proper investigation and prosecution,” the CP said.

He urged residents to remain calm and allow the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
