No 2027 Presidential ticket for El-Rufai, others, says Adebayo

Political crisis is brewing in the rank of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), as the party's 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has announced that he still remains the flag bearer for the 2027 general polls.

This followed the recent defections of some political bigwigs including former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Retired General Al-Mustapha who was Former aide to military leader, late general Sani Abacha, among others.

The development is not unconnected with the rumoured presidential bid of El-Rufai and Al-Mustapha for the 2027 poll.

Adebayo stated this while speaking on Arise Television’s ‘The Morning Show’ expressed confidence that he will retain the party's ticket for 2027.

The former presidential candidate explained that despite the political stature of politicians defecting to the party, he would be their presidential candidate in the next election.

He added that he is not worried by the claim that the high-profile politicians defecting to the party can push him aside.

According to him, he is not afraid or threatened by the defectors, adding that every party member knows he will contest again.

“Let us understand something. I don’t worry about that; everybody who is coming in knows I will run in 2027. Any coward who will feel threatened by people coming to his party cannot be president,” he said.
