Ibarapa gets capable politicians to succeed Makinde as next Oyo Governor - Adepoju

 


A member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa North and Central Federal Constituency, Hon (Dr) Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has said Ibarapa has capable politician to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State in 2027.

This is coming ahead of January 2026 date set by the governor to announce his preferred candidate to succeed him in office at the expiration of his second term in office on May 29, 2027.

Some residents in Ibarapa area of Oyo State, especially on a Whatsapp group "The Ibarapa Politics" have tipped notable politicians from the zone to show interest in contesting for the 2027 governorship poll in the state, with Ibarapa Kan name prominently featuring on the list.

Adepoju, who made the position known in an interview with NEWSREPORTER at his country home Igboora, insisted that Ibarapa zone has always produced leaders in all sphere.

The Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) explained that while the governor is yet to reveal the identity of his preferred candidate, every zone is capable of producing his successor.

He added that the governor being the party leader both at the state and national levels should be given the privilege to guide the party in choosing the governorship candidate.

According to him, the party must remain united ahead of the 2027 general polls especially in choosing the party flag bearers for all the electives position.

Adepoju, however, said he is yet to take decision on 2027 general polls, either to seek re-election or to contest for another position.

"I leave my next decision in the hands of God and the counsel of Governor Seyi Makinde but at the appropriate time, we will make declaration on the next line of action"

The National Lawmaker further stated that he is more concerned about delivering in the current mandate given to him by his constituents.

"There are lots of qualified politicians of Ibarapa extraction that can become governor of our dear state, Oyo State without any prejudice to other zones

On the first timer syndrome, Adepoju decried the challenges usually being faced by the first timer lawmakers but said he was able to overcome and recorded the achievements with the supports of some of his colleagues.

"It is not easy as a first timer Lawmaker but I will attribute the successes my administration was able to record to the grace of God, support of my colleagues, the prayers of constituents and the will to better my constituency.

"All the projects facilitated, those being worked upon, as well as the long abandoned that am working to revive can only be ascribed to God, my governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, my party for the platform and my people for their beliefs, support and those working with me day and night", Ibarapa Kan said.

Adepoju assured residents of Ibarapa North and Central Federal constituency of more dividends of democracy.

Recall the National Lawmaker has recently announced the plans to construct a State-of-the-art Library and Town Hall in Igboora and Igangan respectfully, among others projects to be executed in the five major towns making the Constituency.
