25 year-old man commits suicide in Ijebu Igbo Forest

A 25-year-old male, identified as Toye Dominic, has committed suicide in Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State.

The lifeless body of the victim who was found on Thursday evening dangling on a tree in a forest near Alagbodagbo Village area of the town.

Spokesperson of the state Police Command, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta the Ogun State Capital, said the incident was reported to the Ijebu Igbo Divisional Headquarters by a local hunter, Kareem Olawalose, who discovered the deceased while on a hunting expedition.

Odutola explained that the hunter after making the discovery, rushed to the nearby village, where he met the elder brother of the deceased, Joseph Dominic.

She added that Joseph revealed that Toye had left for the farm earlier that morning but had not returned, prompting a search, which was fruitless by family members.

According to her, the Police team and villagers on arrival at the scene, observed that the deceased had set aside his farm tools before proceeding further into the forest, where he was found dangling on a tree. 

"No suicide note was found, and family members expressed shock and disbelief over the incident.

The police have documented the scene with photographic evidence", she said.

Odutola said the body of the victim has been transferred and deposited in the morgue of General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, for further examination.

Meanwhile, the State Police Commissioner , Lanre Ogunlowo, has extended his condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. 

Ogunlowo explained that the command is committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant and seek support for individuals experiencing distress or emotional struggles. 

"Mental health awareness and timely intervention remain crucial in preventing such unfortunate incidents", he admonished 

Ogunlowo, however, assured that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
