Igangan Community Education Summit Committee Begins Awareness Campaign, Visits Schools

 

The Igangan Community Education Summit Committee has commenced its drive to address the several challenges facing the community in the educational sector.

This is coming after the committee has unveiled plans to convene a major education summit in December to tackle the persistent challenges in the community’s education system, including low enrolment, inadequate funding, and declining learning outcomes.

Chairman of the Steering Committee, Comrade Jamiu Ogungbenro who led other members of the committee to visit the secondary schools in Igangan community, said the move is part of moves to address the educational challenges facing the community.

Ogungbenro explained that the visit is to familiarize and intimate the school managements and the stakeholders of the planned education summit in the community.

He added that the committee has lined up several key initiatives and programmes to reverse the ugly trend in the education sector in Igangan community.

Speaking on the Education Summit, the chairman said the summit is designed as a platform to bring together critical stakeholders from across the education ecosystem to develop coordinated and practical solutions to the educational challenges facing the community.

Ogungbenro explained that the critical stakeholders during the summit will exchange diverse perspectives, explore a wide range of issues and discover solutions that can transform the educational system into a driver of sustainable socio-economic growth in the community and beyond.

He added that the urgency of the summit followed the troubling statistics, especially on the recent external examinations, where students from the community performed below par which the summit aimed to overturned.

According to him, the ugly development of such poor performance is attributed to decline of interest in education by the students in the community and systemic failures such as inadequate funding and infrastructure and teachers, among others.

“We are facing a significant challenges in the educational sector of our dear community, Igangan, and the ugly trend if not immediately address will severely limits our development prospects in the nearest future within and outside the community.

“Our younger ones are practically losing interest in the education due to the quick rich syndrome and other underlying factors responsible for the reduction in the students’ enrolment and mass failure in the external examination.

 “Education being the fundamental right of every child, our community is facing rising cases of out-of-school children, especially at the secondary school level not to talk of tertiary education compared with our neighbouring communities and the state as a whole.

“To address these challenges, the summit will foster stronger partnerships between government, academia, the private sector, and civil society in a move to mobilize investment, public-private partnerships, sustainable financing, and collaborations,” Ogungbenro concluded.

The committee visited both the public and private secondary schools in Igangan community.
