Heavy Rainfall Flood Oyo, Residents Experience Difficulty Navigating Streets
By Iyanuoluwa Olaoluwa - Oyo Town
Some parts
of Oyo township experienced partial flooding on Wednesday morning following a
heavy downpour recorded on Tuesday night.
The affected area include SPED area, Jobele road, among others.
The heavy
rainfall, which is now being witnessed on daily basis for the past few days
again began on Tuesday morning, paused briefly and continued through the night,
leading to a waterlogged section.
It also
resulted in an overflowing river along the Oyo-Ibadan Old Road, causing the
floodwaters to spill onto the ever-busy road and into the nearby residential
areas.
The aftermath
of the rain showed some parts of the community, especially the major streets
being submerged with water.
The ugly
development disrupted movement of the people, especially the workers and
students who are early risers to their duty posts.
Both
motorists and residents struggled to navigate major roads as floodwaters
covered several streets and blocked entrances to homes.
Some
individuals heading to work and school had no choice but to walked through the
flood in a bid to reach their destinations ahead of time.

Correspondent, Iyanuoluwa Olaoluwa, who monitored the situation, observed that
the perennial flooding is due to lack of the drainage systems and water channels
for the free flow of water in the metropolis.
Residents who
spoke with her during the visits to the affected areas, however, called on the
government to intervene by constructing drainage and new water channels to
reduce possible flooding in some prone areas, especially during the rainy
season.
