Truck Driver Crushes Policeman, Female Passenger To Death In Lagos
A truck driver has crushed a yet-to-be-identified policeman
and a female passenger to death in Lagos state.
The tragic incident which occurred at Ijora Seven-Up area of
the state, involved an Apple fully laden 40-foot container truck marked XP 368
AKD and a commercial tricycle marked KJA 364 QN.
Spokesman of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA),
Taofiq Adebayo, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said the victims died on
the spot.
Adebayo attributed the cause of the incident to excessive
speeding and traffic violations.
The LASTMA Spokesman explained that the preliminary investigations
revealed that the articulated vehicle, while attempting to maneuvers beneath the
Ijora Bridge, lost control and in the process rammed into the fully loaded
commercial tricycle, killing two of its occupants.
“The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority hereby
confirms the occurrence of a most lamentable accident earlier today along Ijora
Causeway, inward Ijora 7Up, conveying unsuspecting passengers.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the articulated vehicle,
while attempting a precarious maneuver beneath the Ijora Bridge, lost control
and consequently capsized, fatally crushing a tricycle in its path.
Regrettably, two passengers, among them a serving Police Officer, were killed
instantly, the statement partly read.
Adebayo, however, said the body of the deceased police
officer had been deposited in the morgue while that of the female victim had
been released to her relatives for the burial rites.
According to him, two additional victims, including the
tricycle operator who sustained severe bilateral leg fractures, were rescued
alive by officials of the agency and other emergency responders at the scene
and they had since been rushed to nearby hospital for medical treatment.
