Royal Rumble: Ooni Knocks Oluwo Over Fresh Claims On Ile-Ife As Yoruba Race Origin
Fresh tradition crisis has erupted between the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) and the Oluwo of
Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, over Oluwo's claim that Ile-Ife is not the origin of
the Yoruba people.
Oba Akanbi had recently in a viral video posted on his
Facebook page while conferring a chieftaincy title in his palace, insisted that
Ile-Ife has no Yoruba culture.
The controversial Iwo monarch argued that the language
spoken in Ile-Ife widely regarded as the cradle of the Yoruba race differed
from mainstream Yoruba.
He questioned the reference of God as Eledumare instead of Olodumare
in the Yoruba language and the use of Olofin which means the owner of the
palace instead of Alaafin.
However, Oba Ogunwusi, while reacting to the comments in a
statement by the palace Spokesman, Moses Olafare, dismissed the claims by Oba
Akanbi.
Ooni of Ife explained that no reasonable person will react to Oluwo’s comments on any serious subject matter.
