Again, Akinlade Returns to APC, Rules Out Contesting 2027 Governorship Poll

Former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Adekunle Akinade, has again announced that his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is coming after the former ally of former governor Ibikunle Amosun had on May 26, 2025 dumped PDP before his return to APC which he left ahead of the 2023 general polls.

Akinlade, who announced his fresh move in an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, described his defection as homecoming.

The Former Deputy Governorship candidate explained that he is back home and ready to align with the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun and the party.

He also commended the current administration led by Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, saying that he is impressed by his achievements in the last six years, especially the constructing Owode- Idiroko road, s

According to the former House of Representatives member, Abiodun will be remembered for constructing the road which has been in bad condition for years.

"We are just coming back from stakeholders’ meeting now so we have decided to go back to APC, everyone one of us are going back to APC. The decision was not taken lightly but was taken clearly. It is clear that PDP can not find its way back. We are going to meet with the Governor either tonight or tomorrow to tell him our decision. We are back home.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun has done well, he has a clear vision and he is doing well. I am impressed by his achievements in the last 6 years. I want to say that now that we have defected to APC, we are going align with Prince Dapo Abiodun and the party. Abiodun is the leader of the party and we are going to be loyal to him. I am satisfied with what he has done so far.

Akinlade, however, said he has no plan of contesting for any position but he will support whoever Abiodun wants as a successor.
