Truck Driver Crushes Two Children, Four Others To Death in Akwa Ibom

A total of six persons including two children have lost their lives in a fatal autocrash along Mbiabong Itam road, off Itu-Uyo Road in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the accident involved a Tricycle (Keke) marked DUU407WZ and an unregistered Truck.

State's Sector Commander of FRSC, Edward Odiete, who confirmed the tragic incident to newsmen in Uyo, the state capital, said the victims died on the spot.

Odiete attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed and brake failure.

He explained that the truck driver managed to escape from the scene of the accident before the arrival of the rescue team.

According to him, the bodies of the dead victims had been deposited to the morgue.

Odiete, however, warned road users, especially motorists against reckless driving, speeding, wrong-way drive and distracted driving adding that the incident could have been avoided should the driver and rider observed certain degrees of safety measures and precautions, and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.

While commiserating with the families of the deceased, he enjoined all road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid wanton loss of lives and property due to road crashes.
