Ogun VIO worries over attacks on personnel

 

Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) has expressed concerns over the rising cases of assault on its officers in Ogun State.

According to the agency, the attacks on the officers are being recorded on a daily basis while carrying out their lawful duty.

Head of Operations of VIO, Engineer (Dr), Taofeek Abimbola Babalola, who expressed the concerns while addressing newsmen at Kotopo office in Abeokuta, the State Capital, described the ugly trend as worrisome.

Babalola explained that most of the drivers involved in the act are those plying the roads with rickety and faulty vehicles.

The South West Coordinator of the VIO added that the affected drivers are also without necessary documents.

According to him, several officers have sustained injuries while the drivers involved on many occasions due escape arrest leaving their vehicles behind.

"The level of attacks on our officers while carrying out their lawful duty is becoming alarming, especially as the cases are being recorded on a daily basis on our roads" he lamented.

"This has resulted in some of the affected officers sustaining injuries while others escaped death by whiskers, this cannot be allowed to continue", Babalola added.

"It takes the timely intervention of security agencies, especially Police under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and the special units like SWAT to arrest some of the culprits" he concluded.

Babalola, however, warned that any driver involved in attacking officers will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
