Ogun Police nabs armed robbery suspect in Sagamu

 


Operatives of the Ogun State Police have arrested a 28-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Wasiu Aliu in Sagamu area of the State.

The suspect, according to the command, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to flee from Sagamu to Ikorodu with unregistered motorcycle. 

Spokesperson of Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital, said the suspect is currently in custody undergoing interrogation.

Odutola explained that Aliu was intercepted near the Lafarge Cement Factory in Sagamu, along the Ikorodu Expressway.

Odutola added that the police team upon searching the suspect’s bag, discovered a locally made pistol and two cartridges in his possession.

She said, “On March 4, 2025, at approximately 1:05 pm, personnel from the Police Mobile Force attached to the Armoured Personnel Carrier on Sagamu bank patrol duties, acted on credible intelligence and apprehended a robbery suspect.

“The suspect, Wasiu Aliu, a 28-year-old male resident of Ikorodu, Lagos, was intercepted and apprehended near the Lafarge Cement Factory in Sagamu, along the Ikorodu Expressway.

“At the time of arrest, he was fleeing Sagamu towards Ikorodu on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle. A subsequent search of the suspect yielded a locally made pistol and two expended cartridges.”

Odutola, however, sai investigation was ongoing on the matter while the suspect and the recovered firearm, as well as the motorcycle, have been handed over to the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Sagamu for further investigation and prosecution.
