BREAKING: Rivers to conduct LG council poll on August 9


The Rivers State is set to conduct fresh local government council poll in the state.

This followed the last Friday judgement of the supreme Court which invalidated the last controversial council poll, ordered fresh conduct of the exercise.

In compliance with the judgement, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has directed the elected council Chairmen to vacate the Secretariat and handover to the Heads of Local Government Administration in their respective Council.

On Wednesday, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), has scheduled 9 August 2025 for fresh Local Government Council Elections in the state.

RSIEC chairman, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, announced the date during a stakeholders’ meeting and the official unveiling of the 2025 Local Government Elections timetable and guidelines at the commission’s headquarters on Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

Addressing stakeholders, Justice Enebeli reaffirmed RSIEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and impartial election, urging political parties to adhere to the rules.
