2027: Makinde to announce successor in January 2026

 

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has hinted on the plans to take active role in the selection of his successor.

The governor will end his tenure in May 29, 2027 at the expiration of his eight years in office.

Makinde, who gave the hint while speaking during the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture held in Ibadan, the state capital, however, silence on the identity of his preferred candidate to succeed him

The governor explained that he will delay the identity of his successor till January 2026 before he will make it public.

He added that though he is aware that some people are already jostling for the position but he will unveil the candidate he will support for the next governorship poll in the state by next year.

According to him, he is not a lame duck n his plans for 2027 general polls in the state.

"I am aware that some individuals are considering pursuing other ventures as my time in office draws to a close" he said.

" But in January 2026, the picture of my preferred successor will be emblazoned on the billboard located at Isale Alfa,” the governor added.

"By that time, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there.” he concluded.

Makinde, however, said the lecture provided him the opportunity to appreciate Muslim leaders in the state for their support for his administration.

Dignitaries who attended the event include the religious and political leaders, notably former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, among others.
